Many people cannot imagine that hypnosis can help with type 2 diabetes. My many years of experience with hundreds of clients with this diagnosis shows very well how well hypnosis can help to lower blood sugar levels permanently. This means that those affected can either avoid taking medication or discontinue medication that they are already taking after consulting their doctor.

Type 2 diabetes is often associated with insulin resistance. What does that mean?

When carbohydrates are eaten, the blood sugar level rises, causing the pancreas to release insulin. The task of insulin is to bring blood sugar, called glucose, into the cells. To do this, insulin docks onto the receptors provided for this purpose in our cells and transports the glucose into them. Glucose is the energy supplier for the cells; they are dependent on it.

In other words, the receptors are doors to the cells; insulin is the door opener. More and more people are exhausting their receptors due to the constant high consumption of carbohydrates such as bread, pasta, sweets, pastries, fruit juices and so on. The doors then start to jam and can no longer be opened. Over time, the cells receive less energy than they need. This is insulin resistance or, colloquially, diabetes.

With insulin resistance, which usually develops slowly and insidiously, there are no symptoms at the beginning, which means that type 2 diabetes is often only an incidental finding and is discovered during a routine examination. If insulin resistance is not treated for a long time, symptoms such as poorly healing wounds, dry or itchy skin, increased thirst, frequent urination or a tendency to infections develop. If type 2 diabetes remains untreated for a very long time, necrosis can occur, which means that cells die and as a result toes, feet or even legs have to be amputated.

In conventional medical therapies, everything is aimed at permanently lowering the blood sugar level. Many patients have to take tablets such as metformin or even inject insulin. In addition, those affected are advised to lose weight and exercise more, which makes a lot of sense. But if only it were that easy! This is where hypnosis comes into play.

Weight reduction with the help of hypnosis

Most people with type 2 diabetes are overweight, which is often due to eating too many processed carbohydrates. When you lose weight, the average blood sugar (HbA1c) automatically decreases. This is why doctors recommend that their patients lose weight.

However, many people do not manage to reduce their weight with sheer willpower, or not sustainably.

Losing weight with hypnosis is not a diet in the conventional sense. Instead, hypnosis enables you to live more holistically in a gentle, efficient and sustainable way and thus find a natural and enjoyable way of eating.

How hypnotherapy helps with type 2 diabetes

Hypnosis supports people who have type 2 diabetes and want to take responsibility for their own well-being and health instead of letting themselves go and taking medication for the rest of their lives:

  • Hypnosis helps to permanently establish a healthy, balanced and “diabetes type 2-compliant” eating behavior and to reduce weight. As described above, the average blood sugar automatically drops when the weight goes down.
  • Another important point is stress management. In the case of chronic stress, the body primarily releases the stress hormone cortisol. Cortisol is the body’s own cortisone. If cortisol levels are permanently high, fat is stored or not broken down. In evolutionary terms, this is a protective measure against starvation in times of crisis.
  • Stress management is necessary for another reason: when cortisol levels rise, this signals danger to the body, i.e. fight or flight. People need energy to be able to run or fight. For this purpose, the body’s own energy reserves are released from the glycogen stores (glycogen = sugar stored in the body) of various organs, which causes the blood sugar level to rise. This means that it is not only the consumption of carbohydrates that leads to rising blood sugar levels, but also chronic stress. An elevated blood glucose level always leads to an increased release of insulin by the pancreas (or, depending on the case, insulin may need to be injected). It is now important to know that insulin also acts as a fat storage hormone, especially if it is constantly elevated instead of only after the three main meals.
Hypnosis helps people to deal with stress of any kind in a calmer and more relaxed way. The adrenal glands produce fewer stress hormones, insulin levels are more balanced and the body is better able to break down fat cells, which in turn is very important for patients with type 2 diabetes.
  • Depending on the amount of excess weight, people sometimes suffer from pain caused by the excess kilos. The knees, hips or back are often affected, as are the finger joints. Chronic pain, on the other hand, is stress for the body with all the consequences mentioned above. Regularly taking painkillers also causes the body stress! Pain management with hypnosis helps those affected to get through the time until weight loss has a positive effect on their physical well-being.
  • The topic of sleep often goes unnoticed when it comes to type 2 diabetes. Sleep that is too short or poor offers the body too little opportunity to regenerate during the night. This in turn means stress. Hypnosis is a wonderful method to significantly improve sleep.
  • In addition to reducing as many stress factors as possible, regular exercise is ideal for people with type 2 diabetes (and for people who want to lose weight in general). It is important to note that you are not only doing endurance sports, but also muscle training for the whole body. A higher muscle mass automatically leads to a higher basal metabolic rate, i.e. more calories are burned even at rest than with a lower muscle mass. Pure endurance sport only leads to a build-up of fewer muscles, which are needed precisely for this sport. In addition, the less intense the training, the faster the afterburning effect diminishes. Light endurance exercise three times a week therefore usually has no positive effect on weight loss. Hypnosis is used to motivate clients to exercise regularly and to persevere.

Type 2 diabetes can be reversed with the help of hypnotherapy. It is not a diagnosis that the patient has to accept. Self-responsibility in combination with hypnosis brings back a feel-good weight and a good physical and mental condition.

Hypnosis works.
